Martial Arts Studies in Hungarian
I am delighted to tell you that Vera Kérchy and Ági Kanizsai have just published a new issue of Et al. – Critical Theory Online, which deals with Martial Arts Studies.
You can find it here: http://etal.hu/friss/
In the first two sections (Definition of 'Martial Arts' and Cultural Criticism) you can find four really fine and accurate translations of papers by Sixt Wetzler, Benjamin Judkins, Paul Bowman, and Alex Channon and Catherine Phipps.
Following that you will find three papers dealing with Theatre, performance, performativity, two of which are from Hungarian authors (Vera Kérchy and Henrietta Szalay), and one is the translation of Daniel Mroz's paper delivered in one of the former Martial Arts Studies Conferences.
Then follows another fine translation, that of Kyle Barroman's paper 'No Way as Way: Towards a Poetics of Martial Arts Cinema' and another article in Hungarian, based on Ági Kanizsai's paper given at the first Martial Arts Studies Conference. The topic and title of the last section is Method and Theory and the two papers you can find here deal with the body metaphysics of taiji, quigong and yoga, and horseback archery as a cultural phenomena.
The volume's last article is a review of Paul Bowman's book Martial Arsts Studies: Disrupting Disciplinary Boundaries.
Thanks to Vera Kérchy and Ági Kanizsai for taking Martial Arts Studies into the Hungarian academic field!
