Two Bruce Lee Publication Opportunities

Following the Bruce Lee's Cultural Legacies conference at Cardiff University in July 2018, two publication opportunities have arisen.

This conference has so far generated two edited collections of conference proceedings:

  • One will be a special issue of the journal Martial Arts Studies (Summer 2019), entitled Bruce Lee's Martial Legacies.
  • The other will be a special issue of Global Media and China (Autumn 2019), entitled Bruce Lee's Media Legacies.

Each of these collections is almost full. However, there is space for one further contribution to each issue.

Should you wish to submit an article to be considered for publication in either special issue, please email Paul Bowman (BowmanP@cardiff.ac.uk) and Kyle Barrowman (BarrowmanKyle@gmail.com) with your completed article, stating clearly which journal issue you would like to be considered for.

The deadline for submissions is January 15th 2019.

Here is further information about each publication:

1. Martial Arts Studies, 'Bruce Lee's Martial Legacies'.

Martial Arts Studies is the premiere publication of the field, and is an imprint of Cardiff University Press. It is an open access online journal dedicated to publishing the highest standard of work in martial arts studies. This issue will focus entirely on Bruce Lee's martial legacies.

2. Global Media and China, 'Bruce Lee's Media Legacies'.

Global Media and China is a major peer-reviewed English academic journal focusing on China and communication published by SAGE. It is an international platform open to the world for academic publishing and global scholarship. And it is one of the first international journals initiated by mainland China in English on studies of China, global media and communications involving close cooperation between East and West. The focus of this special issue is not solely on the films and writings of Bruce Lee in isolation but rather on their impact in such contexts as: China and the US, popular culture, physical culture, filmmaking, fight choreography, theatre, publishing, and of course gender, class, ethnicity and other aspects of identity 'politics', performance, or work.

To submit an article for consideration to either issue:

1. Email Paul Bowman (BowmanP@cardiff.ac.uk) and Kyle Barrowman (BarrowmanKyle@gmail.com) with your completed article, stating clearly which journal issue you would like to be considered for.

2. The deadline for submissions is January 15th 2019.

3. Article length: 6,000 words maximum.
