Keynotes Announced and Deadline for Abstracts Reminder

I hope you are all well. I first want to remind you that the deadline for abstracts for our conference this year is 15th January. Full instructions and submission details are here.

I am also thrilled to confirm that our conference keynotes are Professor Gina Marchetti and Dr Kyle Barrowman.

Professor Marchetti's books include Romance and the "Yellow Peril": Race, Sex and Discursive Strategies in Hollywood Fiction (California, 1993), From Tian'anmen to Times Square: Transnational China and the Chinese Diaspora on Global Screens (Temple, 2006), The Chinese Diaspora on American Screens: Race, Sex, and Cinema (Temple, 2012), Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's Infernal Affairs—The Trilogy (HKUP, 2007), and Citing China: Politics, Postmodernism, and World Cinema (Hawai'i, 2018). Her research and teaching interests encompass critical and cultural theory, world cinema, Asian and Asian American women filmmakers, and depictions of China and the Chinese diaspora on global screens, and, of course, martial arts.

Dr Barrowman is a media and cinema studies lecturer in Chicago. He has published widely in and between film studies and philosophy, including a number of articles and book chapters on action and martial arts cinema generally and Bruce Lee specifically. Many of his works can be accessed here: https://depaul.academia.edu/KyleBarrowman

We will also have special spotlight sessions focusing on the work of several other luminaries and rising stars.
