Call

Abstracts are invited for The Future of Intimacy – a multi-disciplinary conference to be held at Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media & Culture, over 10-12 September 2024. We invite abstracts for 20-minute papers that engage with possible, likely, inevitable or alternative future forms, contents, orientations, risks and challenges in and around intimacy, both mediated and unmediated.

Abstracts should describe the ways the proposed paper will engage with any aspect of nascent, imminent or immanent issues of intimacy, from across the realms of media, culture, and society. Approaches should be connected to one or more academic field of the interdisciplinary arts, humanities and social sciences (such as media, cultural studies, sociology, literature, philosophy, history, etc.).

Process

Please follow the abstract submission instructions below. Conference presentations will be twenty minutes each. We can also consider proposals for pre-constituted panels made up of three presenters, each giving twenty-minute presentations.

Successful applicants who present at the conference will also be given the opportunity to submit their papers to JOMEC Journal, with a view to publication in a special themed issue. JOMEC Journal is a peer reviewed, 'diamond open access' journal published by Cardiff University Press.

All abstracts will be assessed by academics from the School of Journalism, Media & Culture (JOMEC) at Cardiff University.

To submit an abstract for a complete panel (of three 20-minute presentations), please send one Word document containing all of the information requested above, for each of the three proposed panel presentations, along with the proposed panel title and name of the panel chair, making clear who is the primary point of contact for the panel (i.e., the organiser).
